The Mayor of Winchester and local MP Steve Brine officially open Iosis NHS dental practice.
The new Iosis dental practice in Southgate Street was officially opened by the Mayor of Winchester Cllr. Richard Izard in the presence of Steve Brine MP at a ceremony on Friday 11th February 2011.
The practice has been treating patients since 6th September and has already registered over 5000 patients in that time, showing the strong demand for NHS dentistry in the Winchester area.
The practice is unique in that it provides treatment from 8:00am to 8:00pm 7 days a week, so patients can have dental treatment at a time that suits them. The practice is also equipped to a very high standard and provides a modern, relaxed and safe environment. This is the NHS at its best providing high quality modern dentistry, convenient to all.
The practice makes good use of modern IT and is one of very few dental practices in the UK which allows appointments to be booked online. Since September, 2700 patients have registered with the practice using the web. This is yet another way in which Iosis Clinic offers choice and convenience to its patients.
Dr. Hariri, the managing director of Iosis Clinic said: “We are very pleased with how the practice has developed. The opening event is an opportunity for us to celebrate the very hard work that my team have put in over the last 18 months, and also thank our patients who have given us great support in these early days. Winchester is a central hub and we get a lot of patients coming from the surrounding towns. We have no geographical restriction on our patient list and are happy to see patients from further a field “
Dr. Sadeghzadeh, the clinical director of Iosis Clinic talked about the various oral health initiatives that are planned for 2011: “In 2011, we are planning a whole series of community events, when we would work with community groups and local charities to raise awareness of oral health and the importance of preventative dentistry. Most dental problems are easily preventable if patients come and see us on a regular basis”
Ms. Fletcher – Jones, the practice manager of Iosis Clinic commented on the Clinic opening hours: “Patients are surprised at the extent of our opening hours. The perception out there is still that NHS dentistry is either inaccessible or somehow inferior to private dentistry. Patients are happy to register with an NHS dentists and are even happier when they hear that they can see their dentist at the weekends. In any given day we have a number of emergency slots so patients with dental emergencies can be seen the same day.”
Dr. Jeffery Williams, one of the senior dentists at the clinic talked about the range of treatments that is available: “ We offer the best of both worlds to our patients; high quality value for money NHS dentistry with the ability for the patient to choose specialist private treatments if required. We offer the full range of dental treatments. My particular speciality is crown and bridge work which I enjoy. My other colleagues have interests in root canal work, denture and implants. We also have access to a wide range of specialists in the area to whom we can refer.”
The Mayor of Winchester welcomed the opening of the practice and noted that it will be a valuable asset for Winchester : “ It is excellent news that access to NHS dentistry has increased and Iosis are able to offer such a fantastic service to the population. The challenge now is to spread the word and make sure that people know about the availability of the service”.
Steve Brine MP focused on the economic situation and said: “I know from my constituents how much demand there is for NHS dental services so Iosis are very welcome indeed. I think they will be very busy from day one”
